Enjoyment is a perfectly valid and valiant life’s purpose. When you enjoy — really enjoy — your life, you create a ripple effect of positive influence that goes far beyond that which you will ever know.
You following your bliss will lead you on great adventures and down gratifying interest paths. It will also, inevitably, lead you to some failures. But if you’re in it for the fun, failure is just a thing that happens sometimes and perhaps a signal to do it a little differently next time (as long as it’s still fun).
My friend and adventure idol Dan Fredinburg taught me about calculated risk and, of course, prioritizing enjoyment in life. Risk is a necessary part of an adventurous life. We must risk our lives for adventures in meaning, joy, exhilaration, benevolence, honesty, and above all, love.
Here I am enjoying a bit of a dust storm on a perfectly wonderful work day in Black Rock City, NV. I could be at home working on all my big idea projects for YOU MIGHT DIE TOMORROW right now, but instead I’m out here for a month connecting Emergency Communication Systems and enjoying this beautiful culture. It doesn’t have to make sense for my career. It doesn’t always have to save babies. It should just be mostly fun and personally gratifying. I’d say this is a face of gratified joy. 😃
Enjoy your life. Have fun every single day. Adventures await you, my friend.
What lights you up in life?
